The course is focused on developing the four language skills in a practical and communicative way and it is adapted to the level of the students. In most of the cases, an interview in Spanish and a written test are to be taken by students on the first day of the course to measure the participant’s Spanish level. Classes are given in Granada school site located on the following ADDRESS: West side of Colegio Saleciano San Juan Bosco. Spanish one-on-one lessons program is mainly offered in Managua city and near vicinities. Actually, it is the main and only linguistic product we offer in the capital of the country. The Instituto Lingüístico teachers are sent directly to the participants’ house, hotel, office, or apartment to avoid long distances rides in an unknown environment for a visitor. We do not have a school location in Managua but we do offer Spanish lessons with a private tutor one-on-one at the students own site. The cost for one-on-one private lesson is calculated per hour and it includes some class materials. The cost per hour may vary for lessons around Managua. A school Spanish workbook is available at additional cost. The workbook is free depending on the amount of Spanish lessons taken. 

Personalized lessons and optional topics are main characteristics of this program. The minimum program is four hours per week. The extension of the program and amount of class hours is decided by the student. We have a flexible schedule adjusted and adapted to the student time availability and needs. The participants plan their own program to meet their needs at their own pace. Homestay Spanish in Granada

This Spanish course is an immersion course as any of the previous ones offered by our school. The only difference is that the teacher comes to the house of the host family for the lessons. The family has an open space for the lessons either by the garden, by the patio, etc. The school provides the whiteboard, and the necessary for the class. The School Administration supervises and does check in if not daily then two or three days a week. The lessons are taught individually or in small groups of two or three registered together and living in the same homestay upon request. The course is focused on developing the four language skills in a practical and communicative way and it is adapted to the level of the students. In most of the cases, an interview in Spanish and a written test are to be taken by students on the first day of the course to measure the participant’s Spanish level.

Spanish Parlanchin

This Spanish course is designed for those who are good at learning by doing and through interaction. The students in this course do not take formal lessons at the school. This type of program is ideal for beginners or intermediate students who want to have a fast learning by interacting with the host family. The program consists of learning Spanish with the host family by interacting and talking. The host family is trained specially for this course. The family members are not necessarily teachers but they help the students with the vocabulary, the expressions, and the pronunciation; they take the participant to the market, to the stores, to the banks, to public places, to meet other people and relatives, to the church, etc. The student is given grammar material for self-study. Once a week the student meets with the Spanish teacher and a supervisor at the Spanish language school location to check grammar and the progress.

Spanish for College and University students in Granada-Leon

This program is orientated to students from public and private American and Canadian Universities or Colleges doing internships in Nicaragua through Non-Governmental Organizations. Focused on developing the four language skills -writing, listening comprehension, reading, speaking- in a practical and communicative way, the Spanish course promotes interaction with the Nicaraguan culture and the daily practice of the host language by students. An oral and a written Spanish test are given at the beginning of the course to measure the student’s Spanish level and adapt the course for the class. Students are grouped generally in a 3-4 participant class as maximum and 1-2 student class as minimum depending on the level and number of registered students. The length of the program is the choice of the local representative host NGO or sponsoring University or College from the United States of America or Canada. Eight hours per week per student minimum program required. Classes’ site should be supplied by the NGO which basically would consist of one or two small adequate spaces equipped with tables and seats, and white boards. Trinity College, Dordt College and Calvet University are some of the American universities that have participated in this program.

The Nicaraguan Spanish School “Instituto Lingüístico Inter-Cultural” will be responsible for the organization of the Spanish language program only; the sponsoring NGO would be in charge of room and board with local families and also of other possible additional classes such as History, Sociology and the management of the Internship in cooperation with the visiting University or College. Spanish instruction for this program is conducted by the most experienced staff of our language school in this field. University credits are accredited by the corresponding Universities in partnership with the Nicaraguan counterpart. The “Instituto Lingüístico Inter-Cultural” Spanish school will be more than happy to help find host families either in Granada or León or any other location in Nicaragua where it is requested.

Literature and Culture of Nicaragua

This Literature course is available for anyone who loves poetry, literature, and learning about different cultures. It is also orientated to students from public and private American and Canadian Universities or Colleges interested in learning about the Nicaraguan Literature and Culture.

Focused on learning about the origins of the Nicaraguan literature, the participants will learn about the Modernism movement led by Rubén Darío the greater poet from León, Nicaragua; the post modernism three great poets also from León: Azarías Pallais, Alfonso Cortés, and Salomón de la Selva. During the course the participants will also study the vanguardism movement including their leaders José Coronel Urtecho, Joaquín Pasos, Manolo Cuadra, Pablo Antonio Cuadra, and Luis Alberto Cabrales. The post vanguard poets and writers will also be studied in this literature course covering the generations from the 50’s, the 60’s, the 70’s, and the 80’s. Poets like Ernesto Cardenal, Rosario Murillo, and Gioconda Belli will be part of the study for the participants. During the course there will be a literary conversation session with a visitor poet in the class.  

The evaluation system for this course will include oral presentations, essays, reading and analysis of poems; reading and analysis of short stories, all of them written by Nicaraguan poets. 

REQUIREMENT FOR THIS COURSE: The participants for this Literature course must have a good command of the Spanish language to be able to understand all of the concepts and the reading materials included in the course. University Spanish level 300, 400 is required; levels B2, C1 is appropriated; C2, Conversational level is perfect.

MINIMUM OF PARTICIPANTS FOR THIS COURSE: The minimum number of participants is 2.  Students for the literature course are grouped generally in a 3-4 participant class as maximum and 1-2 student class as minimum depending on the number of registered students.

THE COST OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDES: Transportation from the Airport to Granada and back to Managua Airport at the end of the course. Spanish Immersion and Ceramic Courses

Spanish Immersion and Ceramic course is orientated to those who want to learn Spanish and be immersed in the local culture by getting in touch directly with people and workers, artisans and artists, visiting yet predominant indigenous villages and interacting with the population. The course combines Spanish and special ceramic instruction in artisans’ workshops. It is offered individually or in small groups for the same price. Minimum program required is two weeks. Spanish instruction is given in Granada downtown site.

The course does not prepare participants to be professionals in pottery-making in just a couple of weeks but sets up the basic knowledge for further follow up and development. Besides of being educational and fun, the course provides a good challenge to discover your own skills, interact with live culture and experience it. You can even get rid of stress!

Spanish Intensive courses in Granada

Spanish intensive courses are offered in Granada by our language school in convenient schedules during specific dates throughout the year. These Intensive language courses are taught in small groups 2-4 students together either for 2-week programs, 3-week programs, or 4-week programs. The students choose among these programs. The purpose of the intensive Spanish lessons is to learn the most possible language to be able to communicate with native speakers in a relatively short period of time. This Spanish course is designed for students to improve their language skills in an effective way. An oral test and a written test in Spanish are given on the first day of the course to measure the student’s Spanish level. Depending on the level, the students may have individual lessons or small group lessons. The schedule for lessons and excursions as well as the orientation sheet is given on the first day at the school along with the class material.

History of the Sandinista Popular Revolution

This History course is available for anyone who loves politics, social sciences, and learning about the epic Revolutionary process which occurred in Nicaragua in the Twentieth Century, in the year 1979. The course is taught in Spanish.

The course is focused in the rising Sandinista revolutionary process, and the analysis of important events and the background, starting back in the year 1893 with the liberal revolution led by General José Santos Zelaya, and the 1920´s previous to the upraise of liberal General Augusto C. Sandino who led a rebel movement against the US military occupation in 1927 in this Central American country. 

During the course there will be some visits to Historic sites related to the Sandinista Revolution in Managua and Masaya. Visits to the Plaza de La Revolución, Carlos Fonseca, Tomás Borge, and Coronel Santos López Mausoleums; Loma de Tiscapa historic park, and Monimbó in Masaya. There will also be interviews with veterans of the Revolution. The total length of the course is 60 hours of lessons which is scheduled as 15 hours per week.

This course is available for those who already speak Spanish and want to improve the vocabulary and the speaking ability by talking and listening with a professional Spanish language teacher. Aimed to youth, adults, and seniors. The course is focused on talking about varied topics which include contemporary situations in the world. The conversations also may include topics requested by the participants. During the lessons, it is expected an active and dynamic participation from the students side. The course is orientated by a curriculum which means that the lessons are not only simple conversations in which you only listen and talk not beyond your knowledge. You can get that in the streets! We are serious about our programs. This course is well structured and focused on really improving the listening and speaking skills of the participants.

Spanish and Service Learning in Nicaragua 

The Spanish Immersion and Service Learning Program is an educational trip aimed for high school students of private and public schools from the United States of America, and Canada. The purpose of this course is providing abroad opportunities to experience the culture of Nicaragua, get to know this interesting and beautiful Central American country, and make a social contribution in the local community through the service learning project.

The course is focused on learning Spanish through language instruction and interaction with the locals. The program provides opportunities for the students to enhance their culture, their world vision, and to expand their process of learning and practicing the Spanish language. A new language opens new doors to the world!  

REQUIREMENT FOR THIS COURSE: The students participating in this educational trip should have their parents’ authorization and approval.

Spanish Crash courses 

These type of course is for the people who do not have much time to take a long week of lessons. Designed for short time visitors in Nicaragua who are doing either tourism or business and need to learn the basic language expressions to communicate with people. 

One or two days, a few hours of Spanish instruction with an experienced teacher and you will be confident enough to start interacting with the Latin culture, talking to people in Spanish. 

These Spanish crash course is available on any day of the week including the weekends, and on holidays. Morning or afternoon shift. The minimum number of hours is 4 hours as a total in one session. You can take one or two Spanish sessions.

Volunteering is possible in Granada, Laguna de Apoyo or vicinities through Instituto Lingüístico Inter-Cultural. Here is a list of what you might be doing in a volunteer work. Others not listing are also possible. This kind of service does not have any specific cost. The only requirement is to take at least a week of full immersion Spanish course or if you are already in town some hours of Spanish instruction before you start volunteering.

o Music lessons
o Painting and drawing lessons to children
o Carpentry work
o Building /furniture painting
o Cooking lessons for children

DONATIONS: Educational and sport materials such as foot balls, pencils, color pencils, crayons, temperas, notebooks, paper, individual pencil sharpeners or any other supplies are welcome as donations to poor school children or public schools in needs. These donations are done directly from donors to receivers through Instituto Lingüístico Inter-Cultural. 

IMPORTANT: None of the above programs include insurance or medical expenses. Students are given the option to choose living with a host family or staying in a hotel in Granada. Our staff will kindly help make the necessary arrangements in the hotel of the students preference upon request.
