Laguna de Apoyo is a beautiful nature reserve situated at 15 kilometers from Granada city. This pristine fresh crater water lake is the perfect place for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, diving, walking, enjoying thermal waters, and relaxing.
The lagoon is a massive, roughly circular caldera six kilometers in diameter, formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption. Declared a nature reserve in 1991, the surrounding forests are home to howler monkeys, many species of birds, orchids, and numerous species of wild flowers and trees, white-faced monkeys, toucans, squirrels, the beautiful exotic blue Morpho butterfly, and other wild animals.
Instituto Lingüístico Inter-Cultural, the Nicaragua Spanish School, in partnership with the Freediving school, offers Spanish classes at Laguna de Apoyo where you can take a freediving course combined with boarding at the diving school site. Language lessons are taught on the diving site.
Students can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, diving and other relaxing activities in fresh volcanic crater water.
The reserve is home to howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, toucans, squirrels and the blue Morpho butterfly.
Spanish lessons may be taught directly at the diving school site, helping students learn in a calm natural environment.
The Spanish lessons at Laguna de Apoyo are offered directly at the diving school site — so you don’t need to travel back to Granada for class. Language lessons are taught on the diving site, fully integrated with your water sports program.
The Spanish lessons are also available to participants already registered in the freediving courses and staying at the diving school location. Whether you come for the Spanish, the freediving, or both — the combination is unique in Nicaragua.
